Google Real Time Search
There has been a lot said of late about Google adopting some cool real time search features into it’s hallowed search results pages and now we are starting to see it appear in some of the Google UK results.
A quick search for SES earlier today gave the results shown below – (For those interested, SES is an acronym for Search Engine Strategies, which is a search marketing conference happening in Chicago this week, I didn’t make a typo searching for something else!)
As you’ll see not too much has changed except for the ‘Latest Results’ box – this is where all the real-time magic is happening! In a style that is almost identical to Twitter’s real time search, results appear in here related to the search query in “real time” – (no coincidence that most of the results are from you guessed it…Twitter.com).
It will be interesting to see how real-time search is integrated into the Google search results pages over the next 12 months. We are all aware of the change in perspective users now have with repect to news, they want to know what’s happening now, if it’s more than 24 hours old it’s no longer news, its history.
I personally like real-time search, and it works really well for Twitter. However, something here just looks like a new challenge for spammers to manipulate, in the short term at least, on that note we’ll just have to wait and see, though I wouldn’t bet against Google having a few more tricks up its sleeve as we enter 2010.
